Foundations of freedom – freedom to stop

ID-100179203.Stuart MilesYou may have thought from my last post that I was ready to move on to bigger and better things such as solving world poverty or finding world peace. However, I have decided this week it was just time to stop for a while. I have taken some time out to bring a little normality into my life by doing such things as having my hair cut, reading, spending some time sitting in the sunshine (even though it is winter here, it is sunny today) and generally doing nothing.

I have the freedom to do that.

Having said that, I do bear in mind the thoughts of a great mind:

β€œAfter climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended.” Nelson Mandela.

  1. Stillness and re-connecting have been such important parts on my journey to receive clarity and energy to continue. I love the quote from Nelson Mandela. You always know what you need Elizabeth!

  2. I love that Mandela quote Elizabeth. Yes look down at the valley from which you came. You have come so far. May it encourage you to go further after you’ve rested and celebrated. ❀

  3. Elizabeth, this is perfect…the freedom to stop is exactly what I need to claim. Mandela’s quote is excellent, and now I need to stop, rest, and look down at the valley.
    Lovely post.

    • Thanks. I am not quite at the top yet, so this is a breathing space along the way. Still, it is great to look back from where I have come from and realise that I have come a long way. Thanks for your support.

  4. The beauty in recognizing the importance of stopping and catching one’s breath – for you’re right of course Elizabeth – we’ve got miles to go. πŸ˜‰

  5. You stop to replenish your batteries so to speak, and then you feel happy and fit to go on along your chosen path. I am sure you have the feeling there is still a lot more to do. But you deserve to have a good rest whenever you need it. We all need a rest from time to time!
Enjoy this beautiful time of rest, dear Elizabeth. πŸ™‚

  6. Enjoy your freedom… It is so important to put ourself first and just be in life, no musts that way us down. The summer is here, yes a bit wet, but the energy is coming in in high and low waves… it’s important we flow with them. Take care, Barbara x

  7. Mandela was known for his integrity and strength of spirit. His words of wisdom resonate because he walked the walk. Take your time and smell the roses, Elizabeth. You’ve earned it. ❀

  8. Recognizing the freedom to stop and nourish yourself is wonderful Elizabeth. Enjoy this Middle Ground time to replenish, refresh and let inspiration emerge! πŸ™‚

  9. Love this! There WILL always be another hill, a mound of dishes, a book that needs to be read, a phone call made. But sanity is stopping from time to time.Good for you!
